We’ve been talking quite a bit about chicken wraps and it’s probably even safe to declare this summer the “season of the chicken wrap.”

Indeed, the battle over this high-demand product is barreling toward a fever pitch, with recent launches from McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Popeyes, Sonic Drive-In, and plenty of others.

But that doesn’t mean consumers are no longer clamoring for chicken sandwiches. New data from Yelp finds that searches overall for “chicken sandwich” are up by 125% compared to 2019.  

A new report from Technomic Ignite also finds that the demand for chicken sandwiches has continued, while the product itself has evolved as operators add sauces and other ingredients, such as blue cheese, housemade pickles, and sesame potato buns.  

Chicken sandwiches remain the most offered and sold sandwich on both limited-service and full-service menus, Technomic reports. To illustrate their evolution, Buffalo chicken sandwiches are among the fastest-growing menu items in the full-service segment.

Yelp examined the top chicken sandwich chains to learn which offerings have the highest reviews from consumers, and they include:

1. Chick-fil-A

The top brand is Chick-fil-A, which has relied on its signature sandwich to generate strong and consistent growth throughout the past several years, as well as category leading average unit volumes of about $7.5 million. According to Yelp reviews, customers are attracted to the product’s simplicity and consistency, as well as the chain’s customer service.

2. Dave’s Hot Chicken

Number two is Dave’s Hot Chicken — one of the fastest-growing chains in the industry with a 57.2% year-over-year sales increase in 2024. Dave’s, which was recently acquired by Roark Capital, is applauded for its variety of heat levels, as well as its tenders, pickles, and slaw.

3. Raising Cane’s

Raising Cane’s is No. 3 and perhaps surprisingly as the chain is known for its chicken fingers. Yelp users, however, have rave reviews for the tenders tucked into a sandwich with lettuce and Cane’s signature sauce.

4. Shake Shack

At No. 4 is Shake Shack, which generated positive reviews for its crispy chicken breast, lettuce, pickles, buttermilk herb mayo, and potato bun.

5. Popeyes

Popeyes comes in at No. 5, continuing its momentum from its 2019 launch which ignited the so-called chicken sandwich wars. Fans praise the chain’s buttery brioche bun, crispy breading, and spicy mayo.

6. Habit Burger & Grill

California-based Habit Burger & Grill receives strong reviews for its housemade coleslaw and spicy red pepper sauce.

7. Denny’s

Denny’s fans praise the chain’s diner-style chicken sandwiches, including its spicy fried chicken melt and classic crispy chicken sandwich.

8. Wingstop

Wingstop launched its chicken sandwich in 2022, offering guests the ability to customize their orders with any of the chain’s signature sauces. This customization earns the chain positive reviews for flavor.

9. McDonald’s

Fans seem to be responding positively to McDonald’s efforts to ramp up its chicken offerings. Searches for “snack wrap” on Yelp jumped 218% in June 2025 versus June 2024, following the chain’s announcement about the item’s return to menus that month.

10. Zaxbys

Zaxbys entered the chicken sandwich category in 2021 and has since received positive reviews for its bold, Southern flavors, according to Yelp.

The remaining top 20 for positive reviews include, in order, Jack in the Box, Dairy Queen, Slim Chickens, Burger King, Wendy’s, Sonic Drive-In, Bojangles, KFC, Arby’s, and Church’s Texas Chicken.

To pull the top brands serving fried chicken sandwiches, Yelp gleaned product reviews from brands with a minimum of 100 historical locations in multiple states.
